Outlook Tools Tab Not Showing 'Accounts'
(too old to reply)

I am using the Outlook 2000 version on my PC.

Initially I had an issue with a corrupted PST file, probably becuase it got
too big. I purchased a program to recover it (since Microsoft file repair
didn't work) but that program couldn't get the pst to save correctly since
Outlook kept starting invisibly in the background.

So I thought... I'll uninstall Outlook while the PST recovery program runs,
save the recovered PST and then re-enable Outlook afterwards. No dice.
Outlook had to be enabled on the PC for the recovery program to save. I
proceeded to re-enable/re-install Outlook and gave up on the PST file - I had
an uncorrupted version from my old PC which I am using - But since my
un-install/re-install of Outlook the 'Accounts' option isn't on the tools tab
and I can't seem to get it to show up there. I have 'services' instead and
that shows "the following information services are set up for this profile:"
"Archive Folders" and there is an option to add internet mail services. Upon
attempting to add my accounts I recieve a message stating that "An Account
already exists with thtis name. Please enter a unique friendly name." So it
seems the accounts are there but I cannot for the life of me figure out how
to get outlook to function just with the Internet Mail option for sending and
receiving. Please ask me any questions that may clarify as I would dearly
like to resume functionality of my Outlook. My deepest thanks to anyone who
can assist!

This means that before, you had Outlook installed in Internet Mail Only mode
(which has the Accounts menu ite,) and now you have it installed in
Corporate/Workgroup mode, which has the Services item instead. If you have
up-to-date service packs for Outlook, either mode can work for Internet mail.
I prefer C/W mode.

Start with a clean mail profile using the Mail applet in Control Panel.

Brian,

Thank you for your response!

When you say to start with a clean mail profile using the Mail applet in
Control Panel - you mean to enter the account information via going through
the control panel and clicking "Show Profiles" then "Add" and filling in the
internet mail settings?

I am able to do so and can utilize this profile to receive mail.
Unfortunately, I use more than one email address and while I can set them all
up in the profile to receive in this manner I am still unable to access the
"Accounts" option under the "Tools" tab. It is simply not there, still
replaced with "Services". Is there a way to get things back to the way they
were when Outlook was in Internet Mail Only mode? That is truly what I would
like to do. If I need to uninstall/reinstall on the change tab in Microsoft
under my add/remove programs icon I will do so, I just need to know what
steps to take to be certain Outlook returns in the Internet Mail Only mode
when I do.
